Kolkata Knight Riders have strengthened their pace attack ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season after confirming a new overseas signing. KKR sign Zimbabwe bowler Blessing Muzarabani for IPL 2026, bringing one of international cricket’s tallest and most in-form fast bowlers into their squad.
The 29-year-old Zimbabwe pacer replaces Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was recently released from the team. According to the franchise, Muzarabani is expected to arrive in Kolkata on March 17 to begin training and preparations at the KKR Academy before the new IPL season begins.
The decision comes during a period of uncertainty regarding KKR’s overseas bowling options. Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India advised the franchise to release Mustafizur Rahman amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh.
With that spot opening up, KKR quickly moved to secure Blessing Muzarabani, who has been in excellent form in recent international tournaments. The Zimbabwe speedster was considered one of the leading options for the replacement role because of his impressive performances and ability to deliver consistent pace and bounce.
Standing at an imposing 6 feet 8 inches, Muzarabani is known for generating steep bounce even on flatter pitches. His height and hit-the-deck style make him particularly dangerous in T20 cricket, where uncomfortable bounce can trouble even the best batters.
Reports also indicate that Muzarabani withdrew from his contract with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League to take up this IPL opportunity. Playing in the IPL remains one of the biggest stages in world cricket, and the chance to represent a major franchise like Kolkata Knight Riders was difficult to turn down.
The timing of the move also reflects Muzarabani’s rising reputation in global cricket. His performances in the recently concluded 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup played a major role in boosting his profile among franchises.
Muzarabani finished the tournament with 13 wickets in just six matches, helping Zimbabwe reach the Super Eight stage. It was one of the most memorable campaigns for Zimbabwe in recent ICC events.
One of his standout performances came against Australia, where he produced a match-winning spell of 4 for 17. He also delivered a disciplined spell of 2 for 38 against Sri Lanka, showing his ability to control runs while still taking wickets.
Across his T20 international career, Muzarabani has already taken more than 90 wickets in over 80 matches. His bowling average of around 21 highlights his consistency and effectiveness in the shortest format.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the signing also addresses immediate concerns in their pace department. The team has been dealing with injury setbacks to key bowlers ahead of the tournament.
Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, while Indian pacer Harshit Rana is undergoing rehabilitation for a knee issue. These injuries left KKR searching for additional pace options in their squad.
By signing the Zimbabwe star, KKR now add a different style of bowling to their attack. Previously the team relied heavily on Mustafizur Rahman’s slower cutters and variations, but Muzarabani brings raw pace and bounce.
He will join a strong overseas core that includes Sunil Narine. The presence of experienced T20 performers around him could help Muzarabani quickly adapt to the demands of the IPL.
The conditions at Eden Gardens could also suit the tall fast bowler. Historically, the Kolkata surface has provided assistance to seamers who can hit the pitch hard and extract extra bounce, something Muzarabani does naturally.
Fans will not have to wait long to see KKR in action in IPL 2026. The three-time champions begin their campaign on March 29 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Kolkata then return home to Eden Gardens for back-to-back matches. They will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2 before taking on Punjab Kings on April 6.
With the announcement that KKR sign Zimbabwe bowler Blessing Muzarabani for IPL 2026, excitement among fans has already started to build. If the tall fast bowler continues the form he showed during the T20 World Cup, he could become one of the most impactful new signings of the season.
For Muzarabani, the IPL represents another major step in his growing international career. And for KKR, it could be the pace boost they need as they aim to chase another IPL title.
