The announcement of the IPL 2026 schedule has been delayed, leaving fans waiting for the official fixture list of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League. Reports on March 8, 2026 confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the expected schedule reveal while finalizing logistical arrangements.
According to updated television listings from Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament, the IPL 2026 fixtures are now likely to be announced on Monday, March 9, at around 6:00 PM IST. Fans had been anticipating the schedule release on March 8, but the board appears to have opted for a cautious approach before confirming the match calendar.
Despite the delay in the schedule announcement, the tournament dates remain unchanged. The 2026 edition of the IPL is set to begin on March 28 and will conclude with the final on May 31.
The opening match is expected to feature defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Punjab Kings, who finished as runners-up in the 2025 season. The match is likely to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, setting the stage for the start of the new season.
Reports suggest that the BCCI may release the schedule in phases instead of announcing the full list of matches at once. The first phase, expected on March 9, will likely include fixtures for the opening 15 to 20 days of the tournament, covering matches from March 28 to mid-April.
The remaining matches could be announced later once the election calendar in several states becomes clear. Assembly elections are expected in states such as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, which are also IPL host regions. Security deployment and logistical planning often depend on polling dates and election phases.
Another factor behind the timing shift could be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final scheduled in Ahmedabad on March 8, allowing the BCCI to avoid overlapping major cricket announcements.
The upcoming schedule release may also confirm venue details, including reports that Rajasthan Royals could host some matches in Guwahati and that Royal Challengers Bengaluru might split a portion of their home games with another venue. Fans are now awaiting the official announcement expected on March 9
